Lauderdale County residents have a new avenue to turn to for mental health help after Rooted in Wellness cut the ribbon Friday on its offices on Poplar Springs Drive.
Co-owner Cat Owen said the counseling center takes a holistic approach to mental health to help people fully address any problems that might be impacting their lives.
“This is not just a new beginning for our practice, but it’s also a commitment to our community to aid in mental well-being, and it is needed regardless of your financial means, regardless of your race, your religion. We want to be open to everyone,” she said.
Rooted in Wellness started as an idea more than two years ago, Owen said, and has finally become reality. Thanks are owed to the city, business leaders and community for their help and support along the way.
Helen Sims, membership director for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said the community has a need for more mental health services, and Rooted in Wellness is a welcome addition to the Queen City. Breaking down barriers to care and eliminating stigma surrounding mental health will make the community stronger.
The business also offers after hours and weekend appointments to reach those in the community who can’t come during the work week.
“These are some incredible women that have such incredible talents that they’re going to be able to share with their clients after hours and on weekends, and we’re just so thankful that they joined the EMBDC and they’re allowing us to be a part of this special day,” she said.
Meridian City Councilman Tracy Tims said it’s an honor to welcome another business to the community, especially one that has potential to do so much good for Meridian and Lauderdale County residents.
“This is amazing, y’all. Another amazing opportunity to have another business open in the city,” he said. “Ladies, I’m glad that you stuck to your vision. Your dream has become a reality, and we’re glad to have you right here in the city of Meridian.”
