Lauderdale County Extension honors Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers

A group of dedicated community volunteers were recognized for their service Monday as the Lauderdale County Extension Service recognized local Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers.

Extension Agent Meribeth Boland said MHV members have contributed deeply to the community over the years. As a former 4-H students and now an extension agent, she said she has been able to see the impact the group has had.

Extension Agent Meribeth Boland shows a plaque recognizing the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers that will be displayed in the Lauderdale County Extension Service office.

“Coming from an agent standpoint and from a youth standpoint whenever I was in 4-H, we cannot express our appreciation to you all enough for everything you have done over the years,” she said.

Whether it was judging contests, sharing talents or spending time, the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers were there to help their community however they could, Boland said.

Extension Agent Tia Thompson, who joined Lauderdale County Extension in 2024, said she didn’t get to work alongside the MHV members before the group disbanded, but the impact they had on the extension service, 4-H and the community has been easy to see.

“Your presence is obviously missed, but we couldn’t not recognize all that you guys have done,” she said.

Boland said a plaque recognizing the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers and their contributions will be put on display in the Lauderdale County Extension offices to commemorate the group and make sure others know about their efforts as well.
