Community welcomes Cornerstone Caregiving with ribbon cutting

For seniors and caregivers, keeping up with daily tasks can be a real challenge. A new business in Lauderdale County is looking to change that.

Business leaders and local officials joined Cornerstone Caregiving on Tuesday in cutting the ribbon on its new location on Sixth Street.

“Cornerstone Caregiving really embodies coming together as a community. So, we offer a service here to offer sitters in the home to help with dressing, bathing, companionship, housekeeping, stuff around the house that we every day take for granted we get to do,” said Operating Director Megan Plan.

Plan said the business helps give families that extra peace of mind by making sure their loved one is taken care of in their home while also taking some of the burden off family members.

Assistant Operating Director Hannah Wheeler said the mission is to help the community, even when that means pointing people in the other direction. Cornerstone may not be able to meet their need, she said, but it will help them find a resource that can.

“Even if our platform or our resource isn’t the right fit for you, we’re going to help you get to where you need to be,” she said.

Helen Sims, membership director for the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said Cornerstone may be new, but Plan and Wheeler have wasted no time in getting involved in Meridian and Lauderdale County. Plan has already been a part of supporting other initiatives in the community.

“We’re just so thrilled to have y’all be a member of the EMBDC and all that you’re doing, and especially with what your business is that you’re directing. It’s like taking care of others,” she said.

Meridian Mayor Percy Bland also welcomed the new business to Meridian. The city and City Council are there to lend a helping hand however they can, he said.
