Lt. Robby McClure retires from Sheriff’s Department

Local law enforcement officials bid farewell to a longtime face at the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department on Friday as Lt. Robby McClure retired after more than 26 years of service.

McClure started his career as a volunteer reserve deputy before joining the Sheriff’s Department full time. Throughout his tenure he has held numerous positions including as an investigator, patrol deputy and more.

McClure spent years working as a school resource officer across Lauderdale County School District campuses. Most recently, he served in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff’s Department, while also serving as the department’s fire investigator.

In 2012, McClure was recognized as Officer of the Year by the Meridian Exchange Club for his impact mentoring young students as an SRO at Southeast Lauderdale. He was also named Law Enforcement Coordinator of the Year at the state Crime Stoppers Conference in 2018.

Sheriff Ward Calhoun said the department is grateful for McClure’s years of service to the Lauderdale County community. A diligent and dedicated law enforcement officer, he proved himself to be someone who can be relied upon to come through when needed.

McClure’s absence will be felt in the department, but all the LCSD family wish him well in retirement, Calhoun said.
